So far our summer has been a memorable one to remember. We saw a elephant scare the hell of a crocodile, we saw magnificent zebras, giraffes with broken horns, and of course the three major cats of Africa. Our last week in shakawe was filled with heart warmed goodbyes and relationships that would hopefully last a lifetime. We also spent a day with our other group of misfits in Maun, where we played roller hockey (I couldn’t skate at all, by the way) till the sun died down. There were a few incidents where people got hurt, my favourite one was when Jeff ran into Donavan and caused Jeff a few swollen fingers and Donavan totally unharmed
We also spent the rest of our week in the central Kalahari game reserve (C.K.G.R.) where we got up super early in the morning to drive out in the frigid cold (in bloody Africa) still in our sleeping bags, but all our efforts were not for nothing, our first day we say a lonely cheetah hunting for supper, the second a pack of three cheetahs, and some lions who were mating, and on the third day a Leopard, and a “pride” of lions, it was beautiful. Once we were done with C.K.G.R. we went straight to Ghanzi to chill at Trailblazers for the next two nights, our first night they hosted a cultural dance with the local “San” people in that area, they danced for us, and they even let us dance with them, and after it was all done I sat and chatted with the owner of trailblazers, dudes pretty cool, our next night there was a group of 24 I think from southern Botswana going to Namibia and then the coast after that, they ate with us and gave me a Setswana name, “Qutsu” it means chief, all in all our summer was one of the best ones I have ever had.
