Every NYA participant and mentor knows that raising money is easier when you use a little bit of creativity- but even then it can mean a lot of time and effort. For one 2011 Canadian Program participant though all it took was a whole lot of bravery and many years of growing his hair.
This April, Jamie Norwegian agreed to shave his head in support of meeting his fundraising goal of $700. His fellow students, along with teachers and members of the community, pledged money and came out to witness the event take place. Jamie will be travelling to a host community in southern Canada this summer, and hopefully his shorter hair will help him adjust to the warm southern summers.
