Hey, as you all know i am Kaitlyn Porter (CAIT).
My summer is going great its not to hot or not to cold :)
,,
I am Volunteering for the Confederation Centre (Art Camp) Charlotte town. Its a program where kids come on Monday :)
& then leave FridayL:(, So every weekend i meet new kids who are participanting in the program, they are nice lovely kids who ask alot of questions like : Do you live in igloo's?, Is it always really cold up in the north?, Do you live near santa?, What kind of foods do you eat?,Have you ever seen a seal?, & all those random questions, anyways i help keep them focas on what there doing, teach them how to do art & how to make some random easy stuff, we have drifferent subjets everyday..
My Supervisor is AWESOME her name is Jessica shes 21 & shes been going to New Brunswick University since she graduated, (ART classes), we get along very well. I think that when shes all done her University she should become an teacher for Art Programs etc, cause she does a very well job.
I was very shy when i first started work but when i got used to it i love the job so far, well it gets kind of fustrating for me & Jess when the kids wont clam down but we just deal with it by playing games with them or whatsoever.
For my job YOU have to be super energectic & keep up with the kids attention & everything, Its very sad on Fridays when the kids are leaveing thwey ask questions : Am I ever going to see you again?,Im comming back next year are you going to teach again?, some even cry which brakes my heart completely but its always exciting knowing im going to meet over lovely kids on a Monday. But my volunteer placement is alright.
My Host mother is Racheal FitzGillis & my host dad is Brian Gillis, they have a 5 year old son name Kaden(His originally from Pang,NU) Racheal is very nice & sweet she loves to take us on new adventures & go shopping with us always up for whatever were up for :)
, Kaden is sooooo loving!!! How he is so very shy,the family is wonderful i dont know how i can ever repay them! They do as much as they can to keep us busy in fun ways!, to make us feel like at home nor they keep us from getting homesick, They use to teach in Iqaluit NU, so they pretty much know alot of stuff about the North, but i think it would be better if they experince'd the smaller Communitys like Gjoa Haven, Or Grise Fiord:p we live in a beautiful house in Startford ,Cardiff lane 21.
Startford is very quiet not so busy its like a community where about 5 - 6 thousand people live in.. But its nothing like Charlotte town its too quiet here in Startford :p
, in Charlotte town theres always traffic non-stop & people everywhere all the shopping places are there, all the restaurants & EVERYTHING! but its a good thing we live about 10 minutes away:)..
Whats different from our culture to here is that, they mostly speack English or French, there's more people here that come up from across the country, the timezone, how everyone does more things during the morning & day than the evenings & nights, how they don't really welcome others because they dont know we're new here, or like its very difficult to just walk to someone & say Hi im Cait lets hang out soon, LOL cause it would like shock them, how the workplacements work like HARDCORE on time everything... But its nice for the elders cause the teens & kids can understand them cause all speak English, instead of some Elder trying to speak to me & Im like Huva?(What?) & like I don't feel like I'm embrassed, because I dont undertsand them, but once people find out I'm from Nunavut they find me interesting & there like I always wondered if its cold & everything & I finally met someone from up there, & they ask alot of questions...
loads of love from Cait! BY THE WAY ONE MORE THING!, me & Ooleesee got to see my two aunts who came for the course, Debbie Eleehetook & Agnes Porter, we went for Supper with them & there classmates who were all from Nunavut alot of AWESOME ladies, Scott & Tylie came the next day, & then the next day my mentor Jennifer Johnson & her boyfriend David Switzer came to PEI for a wedding they dropped by & went our for breakfast with us, then the next day REBECCA & NAIOMI came to visit us it was 4 days of seeing people we knew so it was very nice :)
I cannot wait to see all you participants & staff .. sorry for all this writing I feel like its ALOTTT! :)
but oh well,Caiiiit.
