Well I’m Kara Kakfwi from Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories. I went on Canadian Phase last year, and got accepted this year to international. My Placement is in Botswana, Shakawe. I’ve been here for just over 3 weeks now staying at a daycare called Botshelo Trust. I really like it here, it’s a lot of fun and quite an experience. I and my group and group leaders have been working on a fence, and a garden out in the back, its all going very good, the staff workers here were happy once the new fence was up.
Shakawe is a lot different from Canada, for example the people their really nice especially the staff workers here at the daycare (Botshelo Trust), and it wasn’t as hot as I thought it would be and not much mosquitoes. My experience here is amazing the people are very nice, and happy to see us here in their country, we saw some Hippos and an Elephant on our boat ride we went on a few days ago, it was really cool and actually seeing them in real life and not on TV. We also went on a home stay for 2 days and we just got back and that was a good experience, I learnt some things like leaving without no power can still be fun and living in a village was….well the people there were really welcoming and wanted to meet me and my buddy (Chelsea.K.). We also went to the school for 2 days, and the kids there were so happy to have us in their class. When it was our last in school they were mad because we didn’t tell them we were leaving, so the next day before coming back here to the daycare, me and Chelsea wanted to go back to the school and say bye so that’s what we did, we took pictures with them, and they were happy we went back to the school to say bye. I’m going to miss them and my home stay buddy. This week-end were going to be going on a Safari which I think would be awesome! So far my trip is going great, my days here have been going by quick, and soon I’ll be back home.
