Hi my name is Kiyana Betsaka from Nahanni Butte.
I’ve had a lot of fun while being in Westmeath, Ontario, especially because I became good friends with my buddy Josephine. The family that we’re staying with in Westmeath has a lot of animals. They really like to go boating so every weekend we went boating. We fell asleep in the boat once
and got sunburned all over our legs.
My favorite thing that we did with our host mom was when she took us to the Bayshore mall in Ottawa. We were there for a few hours.
One weekend we had to wake up really early to go to a fair because our host family’s kids had to show calves. There were rides but they didn’t start until 4 in the afternoon so Josephine and I didn’t have much to do until then. But we had fun once the rides started!
For the first week I worked at Pet Valu. It was a lot of fun, but I could only work there for a week because they were getting renovations. For a couple days we went to the OSPCA in Petawawa, which was my favorite part because I got to play with kittens and dogs for a bit.
After that week I started working at the United Way with Josephine. I’d rather be doing something with animals, but its fun because Josephine and I get to talk when we’re rolling up invitations. I had to do 1000! Josephine curled the ribbons that I tied them with so that they looked pretty.
While working at the United Way I discovered that I might be interesting in being a hair stylist. There’s a hairstylist a few doors down from the United Way and I talked to the owner a bit.
I’m looking forward to this week because I’ll be working with different artists every day. Or that’s what I’ve been told. Either way I’m looking forward to this week.
